Trying to determine what red metal you should use for your next project? Our Red Metal Grade Guide breaks down some of the most common red metal grades.

Copper

BSBS ENDescription
C101CW004AElectrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP) is a commonly used grade of copper for electrical applications.
C103CW008AOxygen Free Copper is an oxygen free copper with a minimum copper content of 99.95%.
C106CW024APhosphorus De-oxidised Copper has the oxygen removed through the controlled addition of phosphorous, making it more easily weldable.
C109CW118CTellurium Copper (free cutting) has 0.5% tellurium which raises the machinability but has a limited effect on both ductility and conductivity.
C110CW009AOxygen Free (High Conductivity) Copper contains 99.99% copper with limited impurities when compared to other grades. This grade is the purest of the oxygen free coppers.
C111CW114CSulphur Copper (Free Machining) has a machinability rating of approximately 80% which is due (in part) to the addition of sulphur.
C101AG2CW011ASilver-Bearing Copper features the addition of copper to improve the resistance to softening. These grades also feature improved electrical conductivity and resistance to heat and corrosion.
C101AG3CW012A
C101AG4CW013A
CC102CW106CCopper Chrome Zirconium contains small amounts of zirconium as well as chromium which help to improve mechanical performance.

Brass

BSBS ENDescription
CZ101CW501LGilding Metal contains 90% copper and 10% zinc. It possesses good cold working and strong stress corrosion resistance.
CZ106CW505LCartridge Brass has a zinc content of approximately 30%. It possesses excellent ductility, strength and cold workability.
CZ108CW508LBasis Brass Possesses hot and cold working capabilities as well as good corrosion resistance and machinability at slow speeds. It is commonly used for simple forming applications.
CZ112CW712RNaval Brass has good corrosion resistance in salt water and other corrosive environments. It contains approximately 62% copper, 37% zinc and 1% tin which helps to improve the corrosion resistance.
CZ114CW721RHigh Tensile Brass contains aluminum, iron and manganese which increase the strength. The aluminum also aides in the forming of an aluminum oxide film on the surface which increases the corrosion resistance.
CZ115CW722RHigh Tensile Brass (Restricted Al) has restricted aluminum content which aides in brazing and soldering. Additional alloys including iron and tin help to improve the strength.
CZ120CW608NEngraving Brass features the addition of lead at approximately 2% by weight which helps with free cutting properties.
CZ121CW614NFree Machining Brass possesses 3% lead content which gives the grade excellent machinability.
CZ122CW617NStamping Brass contains 59% copper, 39% zinc and 2% lead. It possesses excellent hot working and machining capabilities.
CZ129CW611NBending Brass possesses excellent hot working properties as well as formability, machinability, strength and ductility.
CZ131CW606NTurning and Riveting Brass features a fine dispersion of lead which helps with machinability. This grade also possesses good ductility, strength and corrosion resistance.
CZ132CW602NDezincification Resistant Brass contains small amounts of arsenic and lead. It possesses good strength and can be machined and hot forged.

Bronze

BSBS ENDescription
PB102CW451KPhosphor Bronze contains approximately 5% tin and up to 0.4% phosphorus which increases wear and corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and stiffness.
PB104CW453KHigh Performance Wrought Phosphor Bronze possesses a high tin content of approximately 8% along with phosphorus which provides excellent wear, fatigue and corrosion resistance.
PB1CC481KNickel Tin Bronze possesses high mechanical strength with good ductility, as well as corrosion and wear resistance. It contains approximately 10.2% – 1.5% tin.
LG1CC490KLeaded Tin Bronze (Leaded Gun Metal) provides good corrosion resistance in water applications and at high temperatures. It also possesses excellent machinability and wear resistance.
LG2CC491KPhosphor & Leaded Bronze (Leaded Gun Metal) is the most commonly used leaded gun metal grade. It possesses good machinability and wear resistance. It also offers some corrosion resistance in marine applications.
LB4CC494KLeaded Tin Bronze has excellent machinability due to the additions of 9% lead and 5% tin. It also features good corrosion resistance and medium strength.
C932CC497KBearing Bronze (SAE 660) is the most commonly used bronze in bushing and bearing applications. It easy to machine, and provides long life span, where wear is a important factor.
CA104CW307GAluminum Bronze possesses excellent corrosion and erosion resistance in salt water applications. This grade also has high strength and good wear and abrasion resistance.
